Michael Phelps And Katie Hoff Sets World Record In 400 Meters IM
Winner of six gold medals and two bronze in Athens Olympics 2004, Michael Phelps has booked a ticket to this year's summer Beijing Olympics 2008. On Sunday he won the 400-meter individual medley with a world record time of 4 minutes, 5.25 seconds at the US Olympic swimming trials.
In the women's section too, there was World Record made, when Katie Hoff clocked 4 minutes 31.12 seconds in the final of the women's 400-meter individual medley. Elizabeth Beisel finished second.
In Phelps' race, Ryan Lochte finished in 4:06.08, with that also under the previous world mark. Phelps held the previous world record at 4:06.22, set at last year's world championships in Australia.
Michael Phelp is now eyeing on Mark Spitz's World Record of 7 gold medals in a single Olympic event, which he accomplised in 1972 Munich Olympics.

He made Six golds at the 2004 Olympics. Seven golds at the 2007 Worlds. Michael Phelps will enter eight races in Beijing within reach of multiple records, including most career Olympic golds (9) and most golds at a single Games (7).
And now Phelps wins 400m, takes gold and breaks his own world record in the 400m IM.
