"I'd like to thank all the players, coaches and supporters who have helped me enjoy the game I love.

"I wish Shaun Udal and the team every success in the future".

The 25-year-old, the club's top striker with four goals from 12 games, joined the club from London rivals Chelsea in July 2006.

He told his club's official website: "I am very pleased to sign. It is nice that I can just focus on playing good football for the club."

He added: "I know now I am here for quite a while so it is time to knuckle down. The manager has 100% faith in me and I have got 100% faith in him and our team as well.

Cole, who has benefited from the injury-enforced absence of England striker Dean Ashton, continued: "We are playing some good football, the results are starting to turn in our favour and the only way is up from now."

Andy MolesNew Zealand appointed Englishman Andy Moles as national team cricket coach, replacing John Bracewell from next week.

Bracewell, who took over the Black Caps in 2003, will coach English county team Gloucestershire from next season and agreed to step aside early to allow Moles to begin his tenure with a home series, New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.

Moles, 47, forged his reputation in New Zealand coaching Northern Districts and previously led Kenya and Scotland. The former Warwickshire batsman, who never played for England, will get his first action against West Indies starting Dec. 11.

“Andy has an outstanding coaching background,” Justin Vaughan, New Zealand Cricket’s chief executive officer, said in the statement. “He has made a real impact at Northern Districts over the past two seasons and also brings more than 15 years experience coaching at international level.”

Bracewell, whose contract was due to run into 2009, leaves the team ranked seventh in Test cricket and fifth in one-day internationals. His record in Tests so far is 13 wins, 19 defeats and eight draws, while in one-day internationals he is 62-46-1 and in Twenty20 games 5-10-1.

According to reports from the Argentine press, an Englishman was arrested on the day when Diego Armando Maradona made his official debut as the coach of Argentina against Scotland after the Englishman was planning to kill the legend.

The Englishman was identified as Ian Wellworth, a 43-year-old, who was detained when found in the possession of a machete.

It has been claimed that he was hoping to enact revenge on Maradona for his controversial "Hand of God" goal against England back in the 1986 World Cup.

Wellworth, who resides in Middlesbrough, made a bet on the game, and had borrowed money, but lost everything because of the result, including his wife, who left him.

"I bet £500 that England would win the World Cup in Mexico, and I would have claimed five times the amount if successful," declared Wellworth.

“The next few months will be tough on them. Victoria is stunned that people have suggested David might be off as soon as he got the opportunity. Any woman would feel paranoid with that speculation,” the Daily Star quoted a friend of theirs as saying.

Diego Maradona made his debut as Argentina's coach Wednesday (19th Nov, 2008), his team beating Scotland 1-0 in an exhibition game in the stadium where he scored the first goal of his extraordinary international career.

Maxi Rodriguez scored in the eighth minute at Hampden Park for an Argentina.

The datum that Argentina had enjoyed 73 per cent of possession to the Scots' 27 per cent in the first ten minutes of the match was a statistic that told no lie. Instead, the figure was an entirely true illustration of the visitors' superiority, which they themselves substantiated with the goal that gave them their early lead.

The home players, as usual, could not be accused of a lack of energy and commitment, but their best chance of achieving their objective seemed for most of the time to reside in the unsafe hands of Carrizo. The Lazio goalkeeper gave another example of his unreliability from a corner kick that, with a kinder bounce of the ball, would have brought the Scots level.
