Euro 2008: Nihat Kahveci Of Turkey Will Miss The Rest Of Euro 2008

Turkey super-striker and captain Nihat Kahveci will miss the rest of the Euro 2008 due to injury, the Turkish Football Association (TFF) has announced.

The Turkey captain was already ruled out of Turkey's semi-final against Germany in Basel on Wednesday after he sustained a thigh injury in the quarter-final win over Croatia.

The Association confirmed that he will play no further part in the tournament.

Nihat Kahveci was captaining the side in the absence of injured Emre Belozoglu. Nihat left Turkey's base in Vienna and will return home to Spain.

Holland's Boulahrouz Stays With The Team After Tragic

The Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz will remain with the Dutch Euro 2008 squad despite a family tragedy, the coach, Marco van Basten, said yesterday.


Boulahrouz's wife was taken to hospital this week with pregnancy complications and the couple's prematurely-born daughter later died. "I understand it is very difficult for Khalid and we will all try to support him however we can," Van Basten said, adding that the defender had the freedom to leave the team's hotel whenever he wanted.

Bastian Schweinsteiger: "We Showed The German character"

Germany is the first team in Euro 2008 to reach semifinal after defeating Portugal 3-2. Without their trainer Joachim Löw for this match, they defeated one of the favorites of Euro 2008, Portugal.

Key play-maker for Germany was Bastian Schweinsteiger. He opened the scoring for Germany in the 24th minute. The other 2 goals for Germany were scored by Klose and Ballack, where Schweinsteiger had a part to play too. His crosses in the box were too much for the Portuguese defense.

After the match Schweinsteiger had these to say:

“I am extremely happy that we won the game. We are now amongst the top four and have knocked one of the best teams out of the tournament. We played for the trainer tonight. I knew that I made a mistake against Croatia, so I wanted to help the team as much as I possibly could."

“In football anything is possible and tonight we showed the German character.”

Raymond Domenech Proposes Estelle Denis After French Loss

French coach Raymond Domenech today proposed to his girlfriend, live on France's M6 TV station, moments after his team France lost to Italy 2-0.

"Yes, forgive me. It was an error in communication," Domenech said Wednesday. "I felt a moment of humanity when I should have stayed cold and professional. Behind my outer shell, I felt the need to tell people that I love them."

In the show Domenech was questioned that if he would resign as a coach, but instead of answering the question, he said he intended to marry his girlfriend, television presenter Estelle Denis.

"I have only one project, which is to marry Estelle," Domenech answered. "I told myself that there are beautiful things in life. It's good to tell someone that you love them."


But today Domenech insisted that it was not a pre-determined ploy to avoid answering questions.

"It was a moment of spontaneity, of sincerity, of total emotion," Domenech said.


Estelle Denis, has been with Domenech for years. The couple have two kids, Victoire and Merlin.
